01 Apr: Flex Builder Gumbo expired

    posted by: martijn, at 1 April 2009 22:55 GMT+1, 1 April 2009 22:59 GMT+1

Today my Flex Builder Gumbo expired and I have to switch back to good old Flex Builder 3. I was so getting used to the new features presented in Gumbo that switching back will be tough. Was the initial roadmap for a new beta of Gumbo planned for this moment? Is so sadly Adobe hasn't met the deadline.

I'm sure that if you looked at everything that had to re-do due to popular demand (google "fx prefix") then I'm sure you would understand what they are going through.  :)  Taking a product that is nearly done and having to redesign a key aspect of it can be tough!  Great job Adobe - keep up the great work!  It's worth the wait, and I'm sure Martijn will agree!

I'm sorry if my post sounded like a judgement towards the Flex Builder team, it's not. I'm very pleased how things are going (and removing the Fx prefix i assume is a time consuming matter) but it also hurts to go back to FB3.

weird, I had understood that after the preview expired you could use your flexbuilder 3 serial to keep using it, but this, as I just found out, doesn't work. Bummer indeed...

It seems like a step back.  I would have hoped that the general release would be out by now.  It would make sense to extend the beta if the real product is not available.  I too switched back to Flex 3, but I am disappointed they didn't extend the Flex 4 (Gumbo) trial. :(

They should provide a license number to bridge this couple of months. In the end, it's developers like you that will create the first apps to showcase Gumbo goodness. And it's not like they're alone anymore. I am seriously looking into JavaFX for very many reasons, this is yet another one. They are starting to look like Sun in terms of deadlines.
