Flex 4 is build around TLF and to embed fonts you need to add "embedAsCFF:true" to the Embed statement which is a Flex 4 (or greater) option.

Vellum or Text Layout Framework (in short TLF) is a Flash framework build upon the new Flash Player 10 text engine which enables developers better text handling.
